Attack path

A Lifecycle Workflows Administrator can create and alter automated joiner, mover and leaver processes. An attacker could weaken an offboarding workflow so that sessions, group memberships or other access are not removed when expected, then retain control of an account that administrators believe has been disabled. They could also add tasks that grant access during a lifecycle event. The resulting privileges depend on the workflow's configured tasks and execution identity, but failed or altered workflows can provide a discreet route to persistence.

Users in this role can create and manage all aspects of workflows and tasks associated with Lifecycle Workflows in Microsoft Entra ID. This role also grants the ability to check the execution of scheduled workflows, launch on-demand workflow runs, and inspect workflow execution log.
